Genia is an artist I have followed for a couple of years and have always thought deserved to be massive. There are some artists who just seem to have true star power, and she is one of them. Everything about her music stands out. From her excellent vocals to her super wide-ranging sound, Genia stands out. When listening to her music, it feels like she is influenced by so many different artists. One can totally feel the inspiration from artists like Beyoncé, Rihanna, and Ciara, but I also feel like there are snippets of Pop artists like Britney Spears at times. Genia packages all these elements into music that feels individual and familiar at the same time. Genia has put in a lot of work over the last couple of years. In 2023, she debuted with her EP 4AM In The Ville, and followed it up with the project 4PM In The Ville the next year. In 2025, she dropped three singles, and this year, she has dropped four so far. Below, I wanted to talk about her two latest singles, ‘Doomsday’ and ‘Hot,’ which totally show her range as an artist. Let me know what you think of Genia and her two newest singles in the comments below!
I will say to start things off, both of these singles are definitely aptly named. ‘Doomsday’ has a slow, soft, and yearning sound that leans into the emotion of the lyrics. The instrumental is pretty subdued but also intricate. The melody is driven by a warm bassline that is complemented by balmy synths that come in and out. There are twinkly sound effects that come in and out which give it depth. There are also bird noises that sprinkle throughout the track which are very cool. The beat on this is laid-back, putting most of the focus on the melody and vocals. Speaking of vocals, Genia shows her range and power in ‘Doomsday.’ The high notes she hits are so nice and give an added level of emotion to the track. On ‘Doomsday,’ Genia sings about coming back to someone constantly who does not appreciate her the way she deserves.
‘Hot’ has a sound and overall feeling that is almost opposite to ‘Doomsday.’ Whereas that one is a sweet and chilled-out track, this one is full of power and life. I have to say, I have been hooked on ‘Hot’ as soon as I first heard it. It definitely brings me back to the fun Dance-R&B days of the aforementioned Ciara or The Pussycat Dolls. The melody for this one has an almost dirty feeling to it that I love. It is driven by this quick, groovy bassline, and has bright sleek synths that complement it. There is almost a snake-charmer tone to the melody, which is really cool. The beat for ‘Hot’ is so fast-paced and funky. It is the kind of beat that will get any club jumping. Genia’s vocals on this one are a bit more subdued, but she does show range. She even raps the first verse, and it really leans into the fun energy of the track. On ‘Hot,’ Genia shows love to herself and asserts she knows she is the shit. This is a banger that deserves to be a summer anthem.
