Over the last couple of years, one of my favorite up-and-coming artists I found on social media has been Genia. Like so many of the new artists I have written about on this blog, I came across Genia on TikTok. I first came across her a few years ago when her song ‘Introducing’ went semi-viral. She’s had many more viral moments since then, including this year. Genia has been pretty prolific with her output. Her first project, 4PM In The Ville, came out in 2023. She followed up that EP with a sister project called 4AM In The Ville a year later. Both of these releases showed her massive potential; you could hear the influence of 2000s icons like Beyoncé and Rihanna, but they also had a flair that made Genia unique. In the last two years, Genia has put out several singles. Almost every one of these singles has had a different sound and style. Genia has shown her massive versatility with all of her releases. In addition to this versatility, Genia has time and time again shown off her incredible vocals and dynamic songwriting. Her vocal prowess is extensive, and the way she writes is so intimate. A couple of weeks ago, Genia released a new EP called Intense Lover. Below, I wanted to highlight my favorite tracks from this new EP by Genia, as well as give my thoughts on it as a whole. FUHYUH

Genia begins this project on a pretty awesome note with the track ‘FUHYUH.’ I have to say, after seeing the title and hearing the lead single, I would not have expected the EP to start out like this. I am pretty happy that she did begin the project this way, though. This song has a sound from Genia that I have not heard yet, and I really enjoy it. It definitely feels inspired by 1990s Boom Bap music with the beat and the funkiness of the melody. The bassline that drives this one is so smooth. The guitar riff is super joyous and fun. The beat is very infectious and just makes me want to dance the night away when it comes on. Genia’s tone on this song is so pretty. She matches the joyous nature of the melody and sings with the perfect mix of power and grace. On ‘Fuhyuh,’ Genia sings about a new relationship that she is super excited about. 

MISS YOUR TOUCH

‘Miss Your Touch,’ the lead single of this project,  is one of the viral moments that Genia has experienced in 2026. As soon as she started previewing this one online, I knew that it could potentially be a hit. It just has a sound and overall energy that is timeless. I remember when Genia first started posting about this track, she said its composition reminded her of Prince, and I can see where she is coming from with that. The melody for this song is so warm and sultry. It has an old school element that is just so enticing. Genia’s vocals are always great, but they are as powerful as ever on ‘Miss Your Touch.’ The passion is so palpable in her voice, and her range definitely adds emotion to the track. On ‘Miss Your Touch,’ Genia reminisces about a relationship that was tumultuous but also satisfying. 

NO RULESSS

‘No Rulesss’ is a song that feels very modern and retro at the same time. Somehow, this track feels like it is from the 1990s(or even the 1980s at some points), but the beat also makes the song fresh. The melody for this song is so springy and vibrant. The synths and backing vocals that drive the melody give the song a very uplifting and nice sound. Towards the end of the track, a cool electric guitar comes into the melody that gives it more of that classic element. The beat has a modern R&B Trap sound to it that is glitchy and interesting. It almost has an off-kilter tempo that is very fun. I really like how Genia fluctuates from having a lower power in her voice at some points and having a delicate high pitch at others. The variance in her vocals really makes the song pop. On ‘No Rulesss,’ Genia sings about how much confidence she has in her life and her ability to love. 

LUV ON 10

Out of all the music on this project, ‘Luv On 10’ is probably the quirkiest and most unlike the others. It is kind of hard to actually describe the sound and vibe of this one, because it is just unique and stands out. The melody for ‘Luv On 10’ is pretty cold, fluctuating in strength. At times, it is pretty faint, and at others, it is pronounced. The synths that drive this one have a futuristic and frigid sound to them that almost gives the song a daunting feeling. The beat for this song is hard to describe. At times, it has a 1990s R&B sound that is kind of Boom-Bap adjacent(once again), and at other times, it has a more intricate Trap sound. As interesting as the instrumental is, the vocals are the coolest part. Genia pulls out everything. From singing with fervor to rapping to some weird high-pitched talking that comes in after the chorus, Genia goes all over the place vocally. In ‘Luv On 10,’ Genia sings about how passionate a relationship is with her and how she really goes for it in every way while in a relationship. 

As I alluded to in the introduction, Genia is an artist who really sets herself apart in so many ways with her artistry. Since I have been listening to her, she has always pushed herself sonically and vocally, while bearing her all in her lyrics. I have to say, Intense Lover has to be Genia’s best release yet in every manner. I have to say, as high as my expectations may have been, Intense Lover truly impresses me. Sonically, this project is so diverse but also feels so succinct throughout. There are slow and emotional ballads with a ton of depth, but there are also more fast-paced bangers that have so much life and juice. The whole project wears its influences on its sleeves and the love of older music is so evident, yet it also feels super current and even futuristic at times. There is so much intricacy in all of the instrumentals here, and they really show Genia’s range. Speaking of range, I have always raved about Genia’s vocals, and she shows off as much as ever throughout this project. There is no denying how great a vocalist Genia is, and her passion is so easy to feel on every track. The passion she sings with is also evident through the lyrics on Intense Lover. This is definitely a very apt title for the record, as Genia really puts her heart and soul into the writing of the record. Overall, if you love Pop or R&B, Intense Lover is something you need to listen to if you have not yet. Genia absolutely kills it and deserves to take off into superstardom soon.
