Niko Rubio is an up-and-coming Indie Pop artist with a sound and style that really stand out. She makes music in Spanish and in English, often on the same track. Niko Rubio makes music in many different genres. She dives into Pop, Alternative Rock, and even Reggae in her songs. She draws from a wide range of influences, and she has so much good music for so many kinds of people. Her 2025 EP Ring Ring was one of my top projects of the year, and is one I keep directing people towards checking out. Niko Rubio has released two singles so far in 2026. She led the year off with ‘Sunday Girl,’ which I covered on the blog about a month ago. A week or so ago, she dropped ‘Five Star,’ which I wanted to highlight below. Please let me know in the comments what you think of Niko Rubio and ‘Five Star.’
Like her last single ‘Sunday Girl, ‘Five Star’ is another song that sees Niko Rubio go down the Alt Pop-Rock route. This song immediately hits me with a level of nostalgia because of the era in which it reminds me of. It has a sound and style that is so reminiscent of early 2010s Alternative Rock, but also feels inspired by Selena. This is a really interesting and cool fusion that stands out. The guitar riff that drives this one is so light and bright. It has such a sunny tone to it; when I hear this track, I literally want to go to the beach. The tempo is pretty upbeat, giving the song a fun and danceable feeling. Niko Rubio’s vocals on this song are so nice and capricious. There is something about the way she sings this track that makes the song feel so floaty and free. I like how she extends her range on the hook, as it gives the track an extra zestful feeling. On ‘Five Star,’ Niko Rubio sings about knowing her worth and knowing what she expects in her relationship. She knows how much of a catch she is and wants to be treated as such. ‘Five Star’ is yet another entertaining single from one of my favorite rising stars. I’m excited to see where she goes from here, and I hope she has a new project coming soon!
