There are so many great up-and-coming artists who are blowing up on TikTok right now. Niko Rubio is easily one of my favorites. Since coming across her last year, I have been hooked on her music. Her EP Ring Ring was one of my top projects from 2025, and it immediately turned me into a huge fan. Niko Rubio has a sound that is so indistinguishable and unique. She combines elements of Indie Pop, Alternative Rock, and even Reggae into her eclectic and super-captivating sound. Niko Rubio also sings in Spanish and in English, often on the same song, which really makes her stand out and makes her music palatable to a wide-ranging audience. To be honest, there really is no one I can think of doing it like her, besides The Marias(sort of). Niko Rubio has started off 2026 with a new single called ‘Sunday Girl,’ which I wanted to highlight below. ‘Sunday Girl’ is a track Niko Rubio has been previewing on her TikTok for a while, and it is one I have been highly anticipating. In one of her recent posts, she compared this one to the music of Julieta Venegas, which I can totally hear the similarities to. I can also hear some similarities to The Marias, as this song has a very whimsical Alt-Pop feeling to it as well. The instrumental for ‘Sunday Girl’ is pretty groovy. The song is driven by a dreamy guitar riff that makes me feel like I am floating when I hear it. There is a bit of a twang to the guitar riff which is nice. There is a nice bassline in the background that gives the song that funky feeling. I also like the little synths that come in and out, as they give the song depth. The vocals on this one are just as sweet as the instrumental. Niko Rubio truly adds to the mesmerizing feeling of the track with her vocal performance on this one. Niko Rubio actually sings in Spanish and English on this one, which is pretty unique and stands out. ‘Sunday Girl’ has a meaning that is just as romantic as the sound of the song. Niko Rubio sings to a lover, wanting to be the person that they desire every moment all of the time. It is a very sweet sentiment. ‘Sunday Girl’ is another great track from Niko Rubio, and I can’t wait to see what she does next.
