Recently, I covered a really cool Indie Pop artist I found on TikTok called Tala Silva. As someone super into Indie Bedroom Pop, I was immediately drawn to her music. Tala Slavs describes herself as a true Indie Pop artist who literally makes her music in her bedroom. She has compared her own music to that of artists like beabadoobee, Laufey, and Clairo. When listening to Tala Silva, it is certainly easy to see these comparisons. Near the end of November, Tala Silva released an EP called All Over Again, which I really enjoyed (search for that review below after reading this if you want to). This was such a good introduction to her music for me, and it left me wanting more. Well, I am happy to say Tala Silva did not wait long to drop new music; last Friday, she put out a new single called ‘Waiting,’ Below I am going to give some thoughts on this new track from Tala Silva. ‘Waiting’ is a song with a very soft and sweet sound and energy to it. Although there are similarities, this one definitely differentiates itself from the essence that the music on All Over Again has. Whereas(at least to me), each of those tracks had some semblance of Indie Rock, ‘Waiting,’ has a lot more of an R&B feeling. It actually somehow. This song has such a Bluesy feeling to it that is so nostalgic. ‘Waiting’ is driven by a somber yet cozy guitar riff with a very dreamy tone to it. The riff has such a retro feeling, and almost has a 1950s Golden Pop tint to it/ This guitar riff is what mostly makes up the melody for this one. There are some synths that come in and add some depth to the track. For the most part, though, this instrumental consists of that guitar riff over a slow and light beat. Because of the subtlety in the instrumental, the focus mainly shifts to Tala Silva’s great vocals. She really shows off her range on this track. So many facets of her vocal abilities are demonstrated on this one. I especially love the backing vocals on the hook where she strains and hits those shift notes. These moments add so much emotion to this heartfelt and lovely track. On ‘Waiting,’ Tala Silva sings about wanting a significant other to just show the same kind of affection and love to her that she shows to this person. She feels as if this person just will not give in to her love, and she is holding on to hope that the person will let go and change. ‘Waiting’ is a relatable and sentimental track with an enchanting sound.
