Over the last year or so, the Milwaukee Hip Hop scene has become bigger than ever. Fans around the country are being drawn to the raucous Slap music sound that was started here; its zany and eccentric style has captivated nature, putting more and more eyes on Milwaukee. This city is not all about that aggressive Slap music sound, though. There are many artists here who go against the grain of that style of music, proving the city has as eclectic a Hip Hop sound as anywhere. A Milwaukee Hip Hop artist I dig a lot whose sound really stands out among his peers is Cardiac Da Pulse. He has been honing his craft since the mid-2010s but has really come into his own over the last three years or so. Cardiac Da Pulse has a sound that is classic and current at the same time. It had the hard-hitting flair of modern Trap music but also contained the steady and silky side of the Hip Hop of the early 2000s After dropping three tantalizing singles in 2022, Cardiac Da Pulse released his album Blue Roses in 2023. This ended up being one of my favorite Milwaukee projects of the year. It showed Cardiac Da Pulse’s range as a rapper and Hip Hop artist and made him stand out within the Milwaukee Hip Hop scene. Cardiac Da Pulse took it easy in 2024, only putting out one single(up until the end of the year), the triumphant ‘Celebration,’ which featured RICHXSOUL and Richie P. Goldchain, Cardiac Da Pulse closed out 2024 with a new single called ‘Do Not Matter,’ which he dropped a couple of weeks ago on Dec. 30. Below, I wanted to give a few thoughts on this latest track by Cardiac Da Pulse. As I mentioned above, I have always appreciated how silky and even-keeled Cardiac Da Pulse’s sound is. That sentiment comes through massively on ‘Do Not Matter.’ The line in the hook where Cardiac Da Pulse says “I feel like Project Pat” drives the whole feeling of this track, and I love it. Everything about this track feels inspired by that old-school Three 6 Mafia music. The melody for ‘Do Not Matter’ is so groovy and balmy. This melody, which is driven by a funky bass line and complemented by brighter synths and sound effects, makes me think of going on a drive with the windows down on a warm summer day. This song makes me want to go on a blunt cruise, to be honest. The beat for ‘Do Not Matter’ is just as groovy as the instrumental is. This drum pattern has the kind of chopped-up and sludgy tempo that is so reminiscent of that Memphis Trap music back in the day. Cardiac Da Pulse’s tone, flow, and overall presence on the track match this sound perfectly. His flow is so smooth and steady. The way he raps works perfectly with this kind of instrumental and makes the song feel so hazy and all-enticing. Cardiac Da Pulse’s low yet energetic tone gives the track emphasis and life while keeping its overall steady feeling. ‘Do Not Matter’ is a braggadocious track where Cardiac Da Pulse is asserting himself. On this one, he raps about how he knows his place and how he knows these dudes around him can not mess with him. ‘Do Not Matter’ is a feel-good banger with a sultry energy. This one gets me excited to see what  Cardiac Da Pulse has coming down the pipeline next!
