CHECK OUT THESE NEW SINGLES FROM MILWAUKEE’S DAVID LOPEZ

If you are in tune with or involved with the Milwaukee Hip Hop scene, you have probably heard of David Lopez. Not only has David been one of the more popular and prevalent Milwaukee-based rappers to emerge over the last couple of years, but he has also been one of the most influential and has had a massive influence on the Hip Hop scene here as a whole. David Lopez has been a part of the entertainment industry for quite a while, working as a musician and actor for the last decade. David Lopez’s music catalog on Spotify dates all the way back to 2015. He has been putting out great music for a long time but has started to get noticed for it in the last couple of years. 2023 was a huge year for David Lopez. He put out several great singles last year, with some of his biggest tracks having come out last year. David Lopez also released a great EP with the producer EwordG called WITNESS last summer which deserves to be recognized and shouted out. David Lopez has started 2024 very strongly as well. His album Cafecito is one of my favorite rap projects of 2024(go read my review after you are done here if you have not yet); if you are into laid-back, insightful, and deep Hip Hop music, please listen to that album if you have not yet. In addition to his music and acting, David Lopez runs Passion Park Ent., a multimedia company that does so much to help promote and support the music scene here in Milwaukee. Passion Park Ent. constantly throws showcases to promote local artists and help them get on a stage and get their names out there(this is literally one this week, go to David Lopez’s Instagram to check that out). These showcases are put on by Passion Park Ent. have become an integral part of the music scene in Milwaukee, helping expose great artists to Milwaukee music fans and serving as great networking events for everyone who wants to work with and around music in Milwaukee. David Lopez never stops grinding; he recently released two new singles, ‘Saving Grace’ with KEAV and ‘PRIMETIME’ with his frequent collaborator EwordG, both of which I wanted to highlight below. Please let me know in the comments below what you think of these new tracks from David Lopez, and also comment the names of any other independent artists or Milwaukee artists you think I should check out!

‘Saving Grace,’ which came out on June 18, has a similar sound and feeling to the music on Cafecito. If you were into that album’s atmospheric and calm sound, this is a song you will definitely dig. The melody for ‘Saving Grace’ is so smooth and delightful. It is driven by a charming piano riff and guitar riff which are combined in a way that makes this song so soothing. The beat for ‘Saving Grace’ is very subdued, matching the temperate feeling of the melody. This is the kind of song that would be perfect to listen to while smoking a j(or cigarette) and drinking a cup of coffee on a sunny Saturday morning. In fact, I will probably do that tomorrow. David Lopez and Keav both deliver charismatic and introspective verses that fit this instrumental perfectly. They capture the energy of the instrumental so nicely and make this song feel all-encompassing. In ‘Saving Grace,’ David Lopez and KEAV reflect on how far they have come and assert that they will be okay because of their willpower and because of all the lessons in their lives they have learned from. David Lopez has come to excel at relaxed and pensive Hip Hop music, and he proves this again on ‘Saving Grace.’ ‘PRIMETIME,’ which was dropped a few days ago on July 16, has a slightly more energetic and hyped-up sound than the track that precedes it. The melody for this song is so grand and uplifting. It has a bit of a Soulful Trap music element that makes me think of artists like Earthgang or Smino. The melody for this one is driven but cheerful horns which are complemented by twinkling synths and a beautiful vocal sample. This vocal sample has a Church Choir feeling to it that can put anyone in a good mood. The beat for ‘PRIMETIME’ is not necessarily hard-hitting, but it is pretty punchy. Its energetic Trap tempo fits very nicely with the glorious sound of the melody. David Lopez’s vocal performance on this song is pretty animated and in your face. His vocals make the song feel all the more powerful. David Lopez’s flow and delivery on ‘PRIMETIME’ are so catchy and fun to sing along to, which makes the song so enjoyable. On ‘PRIMETIME,’ David Lopez shouts out himself, acknowledging how hard he works and stating that he knows how important he is. He is confident he will keep rising and thriving, which is such an awesome sentiment. With both of these latest singles, David Lopez adds to the already great run he has been on for the last year or so. He is one of Milwaukee’s most important Hip Hop artists, and he continues to prove this with these two newest tracks.
