NEW MILWAUKEE SINGLES TO CHECK OUT: ‘ROTATION’ BY MYAAP AND NEDARB

Myaap is an artist I have been covering very frequently on this blog lately. She is an artist that I just can’t get enough of. Apparently, a lot of the Hip Hop world feels the same way, as she has been steadily rising over the last year or so, and she is asserting herself as one of the most interesting new stars in the Rap game today. Myaap is one of the leaders of the ever-growing Milwaukee Street/Slap music sound that has been captivating Hip Hop fans over the last couple of years. Along with J.P., 414bigfrank, Chicken P, and AyooLii, Myaap is helping put Milwaukee on the map as a new hub for Hip Hop music. The zany and eccentric style of music in which Myaap is a leader of is starting to take over the nation, which is so awesome to see as someone who has been a big fan of the Milwaukee music scene for years. Myaap first started to pop off near the end of 2022 when her single ‘Party Crackin,’ which features Ke Lo, went viral on Tik Tok and Instagram. She took advantage of her meteoric rise in a massive way during 2023 and inserted herself into the Hip Hop game as one to watch. Myaap was very prolific with her releases in 2023, releasing 12 stand-alone singles, 1 EP, and 1 mini-album. Singles like ‘WHAM’ and her remix of Doja Cat’s ‘Paint The Town Red’ also did huge numbers on social media and streaming services, and her mini-album Worth The Wait was considered one of the best projects from a new Hip Hop artist by fans and critics across the country, with it even being shouted out by Pitchfork as one of the most entertaining Hip Hop projects of the year. Myaap has started out 2024 extremely strongly. Her singles ‘I Ain’t Hidin’ with Mg Sleepy and ‘Actin Up’ with Chicken P have been helping her keep momentum as a rising star, her album BIG MYAAP, NOT THE LIL ONE is easily one of my favorite Hip Hop projects of the year so far. Myaap is already back with yet another great single, called ‘Rotation.’ This one is a collaboration with underground Hip Hop producer legend Nedarb(famous for helping create the Emo Trap sound made popular by artists like Lil Peep and Lil Tracy). Below, I wanted to briefly talk about how I feel about this new single from Myaap and Nedarb. Please let me know in the comments below how you feel about Myaap’s ‘Rotation,’ and also comment the names of any other up-and-coming artists you think I should check out!

When I saw that ‘Rotation’ was a collaboration with Nedarb, I was so curious to see how this song would sound. I could not imagine Myaap trying to lean into the Emo Trap music he is more known for(I just do not know if her vocal style and flow would go with that kind of music, but I could be wrong), so I wanted to see if he would adjust to the sound she is known for. That is exactly what happened on ‘Rotation.’ As great as so much of her music has been so far, ‘Rotation’ could honestly be the best single yet(besides for maybe ‘WHAM’). This song is an absolute banger. The twinkling, high-key melody that ‘Rotation’ has is somehow joyous and anxious at the same time. The bright and sweet tone of this melody has a positive and uplifting element, but there is something about the saturation and mix of this melody that almost makes it pensive, contributing to the complexity of this track. The beat for ‘Rotation’ is extremely vigorous, intense, and intricate. This track has the kind of fast-paced, rigorous Milwaukee Slap sound that Myaap is known for, but with a Nedarb twist. The way these drums are arranged is so interesting and off-kilter, making this song feel so raucous and brash. Like with so many of her other tracks, Myaap’s vocal performance on ‘Rotation’ is awesome. Her flow on this one matches the extreme feeling of the instrumental. I love how she rides this beat and makes the song feel so huge and powerful. I also really enjoy how her inflection sits on this melody. The melody for ‘Rotation’ is already very zealous, and the passionate way in which Myaap raps makes this song feel so massive. ‘Rotation’ is yet another great addition to Myaap’s expanding catalog. I hope that this is not the only collaboration she ends up having with Nedarb, because it could be awesome to see what these two could come up with in the future. Regardless, I know Myaap will continue to shine because she just has so much star power.
