If you are active on social media at all, you have most likely heard music from J.P. at this point. Milwaukee’s J.P. has taken the world by storm over the last year or so. His music has helped put Milwaukee on the map as a rising hub for Hip Hop over the last year or so. Due to the efforts of artists like J.P., 414bigfrank, and myaap, the world is finally starting to see that Milwaukee is full of unique hip Hop artists with a sound and style that is fun and individualistic. There is no other Hip Hop scene in the country that is like the one we have in Milwaukee; so many artists here are making quirky music that will put anyone in a good mood when they listen, and it is so cool to see the artists here finally starting to get acknowledged. It is very easy to see why J.P. has such a massive appeal to so many people around the world with his music;  J.P.’s music will get anyone out of their seat and dancing around when it plays, as it is just so infectious and entertaining.  J.P. has been making music for many years, but he really started to pop off near the end of 2022. His song ‘Juicey Ahhh’ is what put him on the map a couple of years ago, and he has been on a meteoric rise ever since. After songs like ‘Get Down’ and ‘Werk Sumn’ continued his steady rise to stardom in 2023, his career took off at the beginning of this year when he released ‘Bad Bitty.’ ‘Bad Bitty’ has quickly become a hit, going viral on apps like Instagram and Tik Tok; this song has anyone and everyone making videos to it, from streamers like Kai Cenat to singers like Chris Brown. ‘Bad Bitty’ was even just featured on a Genius YouTube video, which is usually a pretty good indication of someone’s ascending popularity. ‘Bad Bitty’ is not  J.P.’s only very successful song of 2024, though. ‘She Took’ and ‘Oh shi’ with 414bigfrank(which i just wrote about; please go check out that write-up when you are done reading this one) have also been doing numbers on social media, proving that  J.P. is here to stay.  J.P. recently released another super entertaining single called ‘Freak Girl’ which I would like to highlight below. ‘Freak Girl’ is a song with the same kind of charm that ‘Bad Bitty’ has. I can definitely see why this one is starting to pop off online as well because there is so much about this track to love. For one, the melody for ‘Freak Girl’ is driven by a very interesting and enjoyable sample. This melody contains a sample from the hit Disney Channel show ‘Freak Girl.’ Unfortunately, it looks like he is having trouble clearing this sample considering it keeps disappearing and reappearing on Spotify, so I will link a Youtube video for the track down below if I can not link it on Spotify. This iconic melody makes the song so charming and light. The Gravity Falls intro song is creepy and sweet at the same time, and J.P.’s ‘Freak Girl’ definitely keeps that charm. This super delightful melody is put on top of a typical upbeat Milwaukee Slap music drum pattern. Like so many of J.P.’s tracks, ‘Freak Girl’ has a beat that will get any function jumping when it comes on because it is impossible to not want to dance to. ‘Freak Girl’ may contain my favorite vocal performance yet from J.P., which is honestly saying a lot. I really love how his deep and rich tone sits on this melody and beat because his tone contrasts the instrumental so well and gives the song texture. The melody is soft and quirky, while the beat and vocals are gritty and heavy. This makes ‘Freak Girl’ an appealing and complex track with so much to love about it. ‘Freak Girl’ is yet another great example of why J.P. has become so popular so quickly. He makes music that is different and beguiling, and that is what makes him special. With songs like ‘Freak Girl,’ J.P. will continue to rise and continue to help put more and more eyes on Milwaukee, which is so awesome.
