Over the last year or so, the Milwaukee Hip Hop scene has garnered as much success as it ever has. There are more eyes on Milwaukee’s Rap music than ever, and it feels like Milwaukee’s music is getting bigger and bigger by the day. A large amount of the notoriety that Milwaukee’s Hip Hop scene has been gaining has been due to the efforts of J.P. and 414bigfrank. These two have taken the Hip Hop world by storm, making a statement with their fun and quirky Milwaukee Street/Slap music sound. J.P. and 414bigfrank have been building their following and have been seeing a good amount of success for a little while now. Both of these artists have dropped a good amount of music over the last couple of years, with each artist having a couple of songs go viral in the last year or two to put them on the map as ones to watch. J.P. and 414bigfrank have taken their careers to another level in 2024, as both of them have had a song this year take over on Instagram and TikTok, leading to some pretty high streaming numbers. J.P.’s ‘Bad Bitty’ and 414bigfrank’s ‘Eat Her Up’ have become two of the biggest songs on those social media platforms this year; these tracks are having videos made to them by millions of people, and have even had a good amount of celebrities hop on the trend. The success of ‘Bad Bitty’ and ‘Eat Her Up’ has led to both tracks charting on the Billboard Hot 100, which is so great to see for two independent artists making music in Milwaukee. J.P. and 414bigfrank recently decided to join forces to make a hit track together, which is titled ‘Oh shi.’ Below, I wanted to briefly highlight this new collaboration from 414bigfrank and J.P., as it is the latest example of why these two artists are so exciting to follow. If you have heard any of the music from these two before(I would assume and hope you have), you probably know how entertaining and lively a collaboration between these two artists can be. ‘Oh shi’ is exactly the kind of eccentric, high-octane banger that one would want and expect from J.P. and 414bigfrank. This song has a dark and gloomy melody driven by a groovy piano riff complemented by saturated synths. The beat is fast-paced, off-kilter, and intense. It has a rapid bassline that is highly distorted and slightly switches tempos a couple of times throughout the track. This switch-up in the tempo of the beat gives the song a bit of an off-center feeling that makes it dynamic. This is the kind of track that will get anyone dancing when it comes on. I can imagine the dance floor at the club getting rowdy when ‘Oh shi’ plays. The vocal performances from 414bigfrank and J.P. on ‘Oh shi’ are just great. I really enjoy how the tones they sing rap with contrast with each other. The way their tones differ makes the song feel so fresh and engaging, adding energy to this already animated track. ‘Oh shi’ is yet another example of why 414bigfrank and J.P. are stars, and I hope we get many more collaborations from them shortly because their chemistry is palpable.
