Johnny Franchino has been on an awesome run for the last year or so. Since debuting his AESTHETIX series at the beginning of 2023, he has constantly put out great new music that fuses genres and pushes boundaries in ways that none of his peers are doing. He combines various forms of Dance music, Pop, and Hip Hop in a manner that is super unique and cool. Johnny Franchino has been extremely prolific in his releases; he first started putting out AESTHETIX music at the start of last year. Throughout 2023, Johnny Franchino released 12 AESTHETIX singles and one EP. These releases garnered Johnny Franchino a ton of popularity and streams in 2023, as well as many accolades at the end of the year. Johnny Franchino won multiple awards for being one of the best-rising artists in Milwaukee and Wisconsin, and he was also on this blog’s list as one of the best acts from Milwaukee in 2023. Johnny Franhino has started 2024 strong, as he has already released three new singles to begin this year. The first of which, ‘Audi Musik,’ was released right as the year started; it was also covered in my most recent post about Johnny Franchino, so go check out that post and that song after reading this if you have not yet. In the last couple of weeks, Johnny Franchino has dropped two more singles, ‘Light Show,’ which came out on February 2nd, and ‘Shapeshifter,’ which came out on Valentine’s Day. Below, I wanted to briefly highlight these two most recent singles from Johnny Franchino, as they are the latest examples of why he is so fun to follow. ‘Light Show’ is a song that is very aptly named, as it has a song that is bright and vibrant. This song is driven by its infectious, high-energy beat. This beat has an Electro-House sound that has a nostalgic quality that I love. Somehow, this beat makes me think of two different eras of Electro-House music through its tempo and arrangement. I can hear elements that are similar to the music by artists like Benny Benassi in the early 2000s, but it also makes me think of the Electro-House Pop fusion music that LMFAO was making at the beginning of the 2010s(the vocals on this track may also be making me think of LMFAO). The melody for this one is driven by highly saturated synths with a futuristic sound. They make me think of dancing the night away in a Cyberpunk nightclub in the year 2080. Johnny Franchino’s vocal performance on this track is eccentric and full of positivity. His vocals enhance the ethereal essence of the song. ‘Light Show’ is a great song to party to, but it also has this optimistic tone that would make it perfect to play when one is feeling down. ‘Shapeshifter’ is another song with a hopeful tone and energy. This one is a lot more laid-back and chilled out than the one that precedes it. It is driven by distorted, colorful synths and a soulful vocal sample that makes me imagine a sunny day when I hear it. I really like the heavily distorted bassline this track has, as it gives the song this funky element that is awesome. The drum pattern for ‘Shapeshifter’ feels calm and enthusiastic at the same time. The track has a smooth tempo that is still energetic. Johnny Franchino’s vocal performance is silky and fresh. Similar to the beat, these vocals are forceful and soothing at the same time. ‘Shapeshifter’ is another track that feels so positive, and it will put anyone in a good mood that listens to it.
