If you know my music tastes at all(you may also be able to tell this if you have been following this blog for a while), you know that one of the things that draws me to new artists the most is uniqueness and eclecticism. I have found artists who are willing to take risks and push boundaries, whether it is through their appearance, how they promote themselves, through their music, or all of the above. An artist I found recently who checks all of these boxes is Jabril Yousef. Jabril Yousef stands out in the best way; they are a bold character who takes pride in their authenticity and their ability to stick out from the crowd in everything they do. Jabril Yousef is an outspoken person who uses their platform to stick up for underprivileged and marginalized communities. If you go on their website, they have a blog where they post quite a bit of data and important points on LGBTQ topics, Feminism Topics, and the Israel-Palestine conflict. As far as their music goes, there are no limits to what Jabril Yousef can do. They take influence from a huge range of artists, making wide-ranging Pop music that has something in it that so many different kinds of music fans would love. Jabril Yousef originally started putting original music online in 2021. After releasing a couple of singles, they released their first album, Wild Love, in the summer of that year. After taking 2022 off, Jabril Yousef has returned in 2023 with two new singles, ‘GLITTER,’ which came out back in January, and ‘INTOXICATING,’ which was released late last month, both of which I wanted to talk about below. Please let me know in the comments below how you feel about Jabril Yousef and these singles, and also comment the names of some other up-and-coming artists you think I should check out!

Jabril Yousef’s first single of the year, ‘GLITTER,’ is a powerful introduction to their music if you have not listened to them yet. This is a big and bold genre-bending track with an intricate instrumental and extremely powerful vocal performance. The instrumental for this track has a passionate R&B Trap sound that sounds modern and retro at the same time. Through the melody, there are elements of this track that make me think of Anthemic Rock music, and there are also elements of the song that make me think of old-school Soul music. This riveting melody is put on top of a glitchy and almost futuristic-sounding Trap beat which gives the song a fresh feeling that I really appreciate. As cool as this instrumental is, the thing that stands out about ‘GLITTER’ is Jabril Yousef’s vocals. The emotion that they sing with on ‘GLITTER’ is palpable, and the massive range they exhibit gives the song so much emphasis and strength. ‘GLITTER’ is a striking track for its vocals and its distinctive instrumental. Like ‘GLITTER,’ ‘INTOXICATING’ has a pretty intense and dynamic sound that is unlike anything else I am hearing from anyone else today. It is honestly kind of tough to compare this track to anything else because it is so individual. There is an almost symphonic element to the melody which sticks out for its quirky and compelling nature. The distorted synths that complement the piano riff that drives this melody give the song a looming feeling that I think is so cool. This melody is put on a fairly hard-hitting Trap beat, making ‘INTOXICATING’ feel so huge and vivid. Similar to ‘GLITTER,’ Jabril Yousef’s vocals on this track are excellent. Their vocals add so much passion to ‘INTOXICATING’ and make it feel so fierce and important. ‘INTOXICATING’ is another example of how engaging Jabril Yousef is as a musician and how they can make music that is unlike what their peers are doing. Both of these tracks are fascinating, and I would love to see them performed live. Jabril Yousef is an artist whose name you should remember because they are an important individual with the potential to make it very big.
